Shelby Grant
Executive Director & Founder
Shelby started Education Matters Tutoring because he believes that proper education is a right, not a privilege. When he spotted educational disparities in his community, he immediately sought to create change to develop a more academically prepared generation of Mississippi students!
In the fall, he’ll be attending the University of Virginia as a Jefferson & Echols Scholar and plans to major in Global Public Health.
Crystal Gao
Marketing Director
Crystal is returning to serve on the Education Matters Tutoring Board for her second year. She believes that education unlocks one’s true potential, and she hopes to continue assisting the upcoming generation of scientists, writers, and all in between!
In the fall, she’ll be attending Brown University and plans to concentrate in Neuroscience, with plans to attend medical school through an MSTP program and become a neuropsychiatrist.
Justina Visgarra
Communications Director
Justina is returning to serve on the Education Matters Tutoring Board for her second year, as she wants to continue helping students with their academics and enable them to feel as capable as their peers!
In the fall, she’ll be attending Mississippi State University and majoring in Biomedical Engineering, with plans to eventually become a prosthetist.
Kate Boyll
Community Outreach Coordinator
Kate serves on the Education Matters Tutoring Board, as she was a member last year. She enjoys helping those who may need additional assistance to excel in the classroom and loves spending her free time with the youth in her area!
In the fall, she’ll be attending the University of Mississippi to pursue a Pre-Dental path, with plans of becoming a dentist in the future.
Bennett Allen
Volunteer Coordinator
Bennett is serving on the Education Matters Tutoring Board for his second year, as he wants to continue giving back to the youth in his community!
In the fall, he’ll be attending the University of Mississippi. He plans to become an aerospace engineer in the future.
Social Media Officers
Sam Cox
Sam is a returning member who serves as an Officer for Education Matters Tutoring, aiming to make a difference in his community through education. Helping other students grow in their studies has become the highlight of his week.
In the fall, he’ll be attending the University of Mississippi, where he will major in Business with the intention of pursuing a career in real estate.
Elizabeth Hosey
Elizabeth is a returning member who serves as an Officer for Education Matters Tutoring because she wants to continue serving the youth in her community and help them succeed academically!
In the fall, she’ll be attending the University of Mississippi with plans to study Nursing during her undergraduate years to become a pediatric nurse practitioner.
Cayden Shorter
Cayden is a returning member who serves as an Officer for Education Matters Tutoring, as he aims to continue his efforts in helping students enjoy learning and encouraging them to explore their academic interests.
In the fall, he’ll be attending Cornell University with plans to study Linguistics
